Howdy all, I'm a regular and moderator from Concealed Carry Fourm, one of Nates other sites. I figured I'd tap into some of the expertise over here.
I'm in the market for a used ATV for use on our farm. It'll do basic towing/pulling to help w/ the horses and the occasional play time and deer hunting. I'd like to get a plow for it to help w/ grooming the drive.
I've been a fan of Polaris ATV's for awhile, but I'm open to new things. I'm kinda stuck betwen the 4-5 grand price range, but would be greatful if I could trade a truck that I have for sale. I might have a possible trade working for THIS one, but am waiting on a final response from the guy. Any pros or cons?
Thanks in advance |

| That is an excellent machine to do what you are talking about. Of course I would go with a UTV because they are more useful. |

I would absolutley love to go w/ a UTV but right now, price dictates that it's not going to happen. That's why I'm trying to get a deal w/ a trade on my pick up that's just sitting right now. |

Honda, Yes I know they aren't on the cutting edge and some are considered ugly by some people. But I have a 1988 4wd Fourtrax 300 and it has been ridden day in and day out on our farm for years and it STILL has the original plug in it. It is as dependable as you can possibly get. It does one single thing that I really like that alot of quads don't always do. It starts every single time I ask it too.
BTW -- I wouldn't trade that ol 1988 Honda for a brand spanking new Polaris. |

I've looked at a couple of the Grizzly 660's and really like what I see. The diff lock is a big plus.
Now, another question about gears vs. belt/clutch. I'll be pulling or hauling some pretty stout stuff. Would it be better to get a manual shift / semi auto clutch trans as opposed to belt driven auto trans? |

I've logged thousands of miles riding with guys that have Brutes, Grizzlies, Rincons and Sportsmans... The Grizzly would be my pick in something with handlebars...
Most reliable and most agile from what I can see... The Brutes and Sportsmans have more power but it doesn't really translate much in the wooods for our type of riding... The Polaris has had starting problems, The Brutes have had belt and cv joint issues and some electrical problems and the honda is rock solid but it steers like a semi truck comapred to the grizzly...
Used is the way to go.. So many people buy these things on an impulse and then find that they have no time or place to use them... Save thousands and get a like new machine... |

| I'm a Grizzly man thru and thru. We have a group of about 20 guys that ride regularly and the majority of us have grizzlies. They are an awesome machine and can withsatnd just about anything we put them thru. I use mine for trail riding, plowing and hunting and I dont think I could ask for a better machine. |

Well, it's been awhile, but I figured I'd let you all know I found a great deal through a friend. His grandfather had a 1998 Polaris Sportsman 500 with a superwinch, bullbar, windshield and cargo box/backrest. He was looking at getting rid of it because he just didn't use it much anymore. Talking to him, all he ever used it for was checking on his farm fields and at 72 yrs old he wasn't doing that much anymore.
I'm not sure of the average miles on a machine this age, but it has less than 1200 miles and started right up. No odd sounds what so ever and rode great. I told him I could pick it up this week and he was ok with it. I have to run to the bank and grab the money and get my trailer from home. I didn't figure it was a bad deal for 2000. I'll get some pictures up when I pick it up. |
